Morning Meds, Day 20

Morning Meds, Day 20
Shout out to (Self) Kindness

It’s never fun to lose a part of yourself, I’ve done that before; but it does create a cool kind of Prodigal Son moment (Luke 15) when you reunite with that part of you. You can also find how that part of you is necessary to fuel some other parts of you.
For me recently that part was self-kindness. Some of us do nice things for ourselves, but how many of us talk nicely about ourselves, console ourselves, practice self-forgiveness and understanding? Normally I do, but a series of circumstances which I started to read as a consequence got me disappointed in myself; and for some reason I thought it would be ok to think negatively about myself.
Just as we tell our children, there is never a good reason to be unkind. Even if we have something to fix in our lives, the ends do not justify the means of getting there. We can be firm, we can set boundaries for ourselves, but we don’t have to be unkind. When I practice unkindness I talk to myself in ways I wouldn’t talk to anyone else. I believe Jesus said to love others the way we love ourselves because eventually, we will begin to treat others the unkind ways we’re treating ourselves…and a lot of this happens under the radar.
Another important issue is that if there’s a problem between us and God we can fix it by going to Him and asking for forgiveness or help. God forgives and responds in love quickly, but if we’re unkind to ourselves, we might be the reason we don’t feel His forgiveness and love.
So I’ve recommitted to self-kindness and it is an awesome reunion. It fuels my joy and my peace and I’ve seen it send many on an beautiful journey of healing in their souls.

Morning Meds, Day 19

Flying

Watching Meryl and Maks dance this week on Dancing With The Stars reminded me of the first time dance inspired me.  I was in high school at an ACT-SO competition which was for black students in the arts and sciences.

In the Dance competition there was a young man in sparse African attire who looked like he could fly and made me believe the same about myself.  It was a testimony to hard work, determination and inspiration. It was beautiful.

Last Night's Reality show transcended the medium.  I want to work hard, I want to finish, I want to fly.

Morning Meds, Day 17

Morning Meds
Cocooning

Inspiration can come from the strangest places right? I'm not a fan of the "wtf," but I think this question actually is brilliant, and like many things in nature, applicable to our lives.
Do we know when we're about to bloom and transform? I think I know why the caterpillar builds the cocoon. I think he's preparing a grave. True resurrection only follows death.
What a comforting thought when we think we're down for the count. The next time you think that you're about to die perhaps you're about to grow wings to fly.

Morning Meds, Day 16

Morning Meds, Day 16
Sweet Nothings (Part 2)

There was a rumored 400 years of silence between the Old and New Testaments of the Bible. Sometimes there is a melody in that silence, sometimes there is just an anticipation that builds and builds.
I’m sure I won’t rival THAT amount of time, but how ready I have become to hear God’s voice, anything…just anything it seems will do. That seems significant when what I heard this morning, for instance, was not what I thought I wanted to hear.
It’s such a privilege to hear Him speak. There’s such a grace in experiencing the “peace that passes all understanding” that Jesus spoke about. Like a mother giving birth to a baby, all the pain is forgotten, when the promise arrives.
