Changing Colors

Morning Meds 2.27

Changing Colors

It happens in the fall when greens turn to golds, and one day (for us Chicagoans) it will happen again when whites turn to greens. It happens every day when we get to see the sun rising or setting, which inspired me this week.

On Monday night I got to see a miracle. A business owner that I met on her first day of networking said she was interested in starting a business, "maybe making nail polish," she said. Now, months later her dream has been born! Joshik nail polish, vegan, chemical free and gorgeous. My favorite one changes colors from green to purple  (my logo colors no less!)

And JoJo, this inspiring business owner is changing colors herself. A chameleon who blends well into the workaday world is coming out of her camouflage and beginning to stand out as a trail blazing entrepreneur. Her journey so exciting, the risks ahead so daunting, and her inner colors blazing as bright as her nails. Celebrate your inner colors as I celebrate JoJo, and paint your world in only the way you can.

Why Morning Meds?

Morning Meds 2.26

Why Morning Meds?

I'm turning the corner in my love/ hate relationship with

feedback...I used to hate it, now I love it! I was blessed to get

some feedback from my friend Karina, "Why Meds?" She

said that word wasn't very attractive to her...

Guess what? Me either? In fact, the title Morning Meds,

represents a life lesson I never want to forget. How do

you deal with disappointment? How do you deal with not

being healed the way you wanted to be? Yes, I'm free from

cancer, yes I'm grateful; but do I really want to take this

thyroid medication for the rest of my life? At the age of 30

that was just NOT what I wanted to hear.

So, anybody out there ever swam da Nile? I used to pretty

well live there. Denial is a pretty sad way to go. Life's trying

to teach you a lesson, you're trying to see how far you can

get your fingers in your ears to keep from hearing it.

In order to combat that, I've learned how to give a healthy

hug to life's disappointments. "Come on over here and play

nice," I say. "There, there, everything always turns out

fine..."

So I named my blog, where I do all my over sharing with

you...tell you all my hopes, dreams and desires; and give you

my best life lessons...I named it the very thing I didn't want

to accept. Morning Meds, embracing my pain that has

become my platform.

I Came With Open Hands

Morning Meds 2.24

I Came With Open Hands

I came with open hands
Ready to give to my fellow single moms
Ready to give an opportunity to other moms to link arms with us
Ready to offer encouragement, gifts, accountability and a reminder that the reciever has much to give...
What I forgot was that the giver also had much to recieve
Because I came with open hands
They were filled with beautiful clothes from Karina
They were filled with a vision from Joyce of a family that works together
They were filled with unexpected wisdom from Jennifer and great reminders from Calvina
My arms were filled with hugs
My face was filled with laughter from Jordan
And my heart (you guessed it), overflowing with love
My hands are open, but never empty.

A Year of Books

Morning Meds 2.23

A Year of Books

I've been negligent! With my clients and myself. I've been forgetting to set intellectual goals. I realized I've been repressing my inner nerd. So I've set some nerdy goals.

I've got 3 languages I'd like to learn in the next 5 years. I took 6 years of Spanish; so being fluent by the end of this year shouldn't be too tough.

Then I came across Mark Zuckerberg's new page, A Year of Books. He's set a goal to read 26 books this year and, to date; he's got 274,000 accountability partners. And I want in! I'm excited to learn more about the world, as the first two books have been incredibly informative and enlightening already!

It's fun to see the conversations on FB and the live chats with the author, but I craved an in-person discussion. I'd love for you to participate in my Year of Books book club at the Minooka library. We'll meet twice a month and for the first two sessions will discuss whatever books the people that come have read (even if you haven't finished).

Like A Year Of Books on Facebook and think about how you want to grow your mind this year. Often we think about how to turn our minds off, but have we really decided what we want to turn them on to this year?

Calling All Divergents

MORNING MEDS 2.21

Calling All Divergents

I feel like I'm on a journey. My quest is to find diverse thinkers. Actually, we're all diverse thinkers, but not all of us embrace that. Some of us still have that awkward feeling like in Junior High and we're waiting for the "in crowd" to accept us. This happens on our jobs, in our neighborhoods and even in faith communities. You may come from a certain faith-based community or maybe you come from a more secular based community. Within these communities people tend to gain a perception where some are viewed as getting it right, but they just can't figure it out.

What if you didn't believe that anymore? What if you believe your journey is your journey and that you’re ok with that? When you become your own best friend you begin to create your own in crowd.
I've seen that shift change the lives of clients and friends. By having the courage to hold people accountable to their own values I have seen the love begin to shine through them and fear begin to fade.

Are you the next divergent I've been waiting to talk to? How do you feel different from the crowd? I've been encouraged recently to not call myself weird, the more other people share with me their uniqueness the better I feel about that.
