A Tale of Two Professions
Once upon a time, if you can believe it, actors were seen as the dregs of society. Actors were whores, infidels, liars, thieves and dogs. People literally threw tomatoes at them if they weren’t entertained. And since all roles were played by men at one time (the stage was too indecent of women), those men were jeered and ridiculed.
Of course, there are modern day parallels…now many famous people just act like those labels, but in society’s eyes they are still revered. When I tell people I’m an actor they say, “Wow, that sounds like fun! That is so cool! I used to…” And so it goes.
Along with life coaching, I have now entered another profession that I am hoping in far less time, will be able to tell the same history. “Can you believe at one time they used to say the network marketing profession was for losers who couldn’t get a real job? They used to call them crazy and dreamers and not even give you the time of day!” Yeah, it’s hard to believe.
I look at Eric Worre, writer of an incredible book called, Go Pro, as a modern day Stanislavski. He is the one who brought honor to acting at the turn of the 20th century. People laughed when he called acting a profession, said it required skill, trained people in how to be masters at it.
As a coach, as a network marketer, as an actor; may I ever be professional. May I uphold the best practices in each profession. May I bring glory to God and honor the seed He’s sown in me. And if I can inspire anyone to do the same…it will have been worth it.
