Who's Responsible For This Man's Blindness?

Morning Meds 4.19
Seems like such a ridiculous question nowadays, but in Bible times that's how they believed. In John 9 we see the story of a man born blind that Jesus healed. And instead of rejoicing in the victorious healing, the religious leaders were relentless in their search for answers. How could this happen?

Aren't you glad we're not judgmental like that anymore? Unless of course, it's financial trouble, or a divorce, or even all the black men in prison. Then it's best to find out who's to blame here....right?

Or did we just step right back into the Pharisaical mess we're so quick to laugh at. But for my life, I love the answer of our Savior, “These things happened to show forth the goodness of God.” John 9:3. It's time to be unashamed, to stand up for injustice and to allow the mercy of God to shine forth in our lives!

Zero Procrastination

Morning Meds 4.18

Zero Procrastination

It might be the green hair….
but it appears I’ve come up with yet another radical theory...what if procrastination isn’t real? What if it’s just another story we’ve told ourselves?

I started coming to this because one of my pastors was saying that in order to keep her mind uncluttered she doesn’t think about a project until some other projects due before it are finished, and sometimes that only leaves her hours or a day to complete certain things. Sure an idea or two may come to her in the meantime which she’ll jot down, but she won’t answer questions about the event or give any thought to it until she’s taken other things off of her plate.

I began to put this into practice and one of the things I began to realize is how little time it takes to really do most things when you don’t add worrying about it on top of it.  Of course, zero worrying is a revolutionary concept all in itself, perhaps next time, but I realized this is why things get done no matter how late we wait to start on them.

And heck, the Bible does not talk about procrastination, which already makes it suspect. It speaks of laziness, which I would define as habits that don’t help you. Because when you need rest, sitting on the couch doing nothing is incredibly productive, but when you don’t...not so much.

So what if you completed everything when it should be completed, what if you never had to worry about not finishing something on time, that no matter how late you start there’s plenty of time to do it, and catch up on your rest later?
What if that’s already happening and you can just now open your eyes to it?

Generational IQ (Part 1)

Morning Meds 4.17

Generational IQ (Part 1)

I hate when people say of books, "Everyone should read this book." So I won't say that! I'll say if you only interact with people in your generation, you do NOT need to read this book. But if you do, like most of us, because there are simply more generations alive today, you need this book! (Couldn't be avoided...I said it.)
What I love about this book and hated about it--everything was fun and games until I got to the chapter about my Generation X. It made me wonder if I've ever had an original thought! I even identified right down to the place where most Gen Xers hate that name. We've always hoped for a better one. Then they tried to make it up to us saying the next generation would be Y ...but NO they got the cool name, Millennials...Eat my shorts! As Bart Simpson would say.
But simply put, this book will do what it is designed to do, help you understand other generational influences better as well as your own, in an entertaining way that somehow stays away from stereotypes.
The Gen X launch team wishes you a rad day!

This Is What First Looks Like

Morning Meds 4.16

This Is What First Looks Like

Since I made a big deal a couple of weeks ago about my big honking goal from this weekend I thought I would do show and tell! I'm so excited about the people who came and supported this movement. And though they were quite surprised at me beginning with Gil-Scott Herron's song, "The Revolution Will Not Be Televised," I guess everyone forgave me because the harshest thing on the evaluation was, "you didn't let me know it would be THIS awesome!"

Good problem to have, as we advertised the second Mashup for April 15. May many people in direct sales attend and help us change the face of the industry.

The Coach's Coaches

Morning Meds 4.15

The Coach's Coaches

My daughter laughed at me the other day when I was telling her something about my coach. She said, "Why does the coach need a coach? You could save money and just talk to yourself!" The wisdom of a 13 year old will never cease to amaze.
In fact, that is the strategy most people employ. They just work problems out themselves or with people who think mostly like they do (their friends or others they find easy to talk to.) However, the world's most successful people spend a heck of a lot more money than I do (yet) on coaching. It's kind of like the fast track to reading a book, and access to the personalization of the lessons, toward your situation.
This month is gratitude month at our church, and I wanted to say thank you to my coaches. Michelle Smith, of Z&B Consulting, has an impressive pedigree of helping high level companies with their marketing. She now helps small businesses act like big companies. She definitely makes me feel like a big dog!
Roddric Smith, Sims Coaching Group, is the entrepreneur's reality coach, who considers himself equally successful when he convinces someone NOT to start a business. Right now, he gives my financial goals the accountability and reality check I need.
Miriam Irwey, New Life Achievements Coaching, is an awesome life coach who specializes in women in later transitional stages of life--divorce, empty nesting, menopause... To me she's an objective ear with a perspective just different enough from my own to ask questions that push me.
And then there's Johnny Goplin, electrician by trade, my best friend by design. I've just discovered he is INCREDIBLY encouraging when I'm down. This, my friends, is tough to do. I try not to be, but I'm pretty picky with my encouragement. It's not just enough to believe in me, but this English major wants it said a certain way. And hey, you got it dude. Right combination for my padlocked heart.

Fail Bigger

Morning Meds 4.14

Fail Bigger

My dad said something particularly motivating to me at the end of last year. In fact, I hope to one day be as inspiring to my children as my dad has been to me. He said to me, "Next year, I want to see you fail bigger."
Wow! What a gift to tell your child. Instead of saying that he wanted me to try harder, which would make me think I'm not trying enough. Or to say that he wanted to see me achieve something great, which puts the fear of failure right there. He said fail bigger. I had to stop and think about that. What does that mean? And what does that mean for me in 2015?
What that means for me this year is that I am putting on my first conference next Saturday. And I'm so excited! First of all I'm working with the best business partner I've ever had, Alison Henderson. I am so proud of the work that we put into this and the difference we're making in people's lives because of it. And so far we are getting tremendous feedback about our message and what we are bringing to the network marketing industry. So, so far, no failure!
What is looming before us is the goal we set of the number of tickets sales. I definitely set myself up for failure. But I'm not giving up yet! And whether we have 100 people in the room next Saturday, because of my dad, I know that if I fail I'll win and if I win I know he'll be no less proud of me.
And I bet he wouldn't mind if these words inspired you to plan a big huge failure for the rest of your year or maybe for 2016.

Next Level Positivity

Morning Meds 4.13

Next Level Positivity

Ahhhhh growth is so much fun! Nooot...like how God has been on me for the littlest bits of cynicism or negativity. He even told me something radical...He said, "You know how people won't talk about the dead?" Yeah. "Well, you'd be better off  judging dead people whose time on earth has past. Their decisions have been made and you could learn something, but if you judge the living you'll always be confused because I'm not finished with them yet."
Wow! Then He asked me "what do you need those negative thoughts for anyway?" Huh? Well, I dunno. I guess it's like sugar. It feels good to indulge but it has no nutritional value to my life. Oh Kay!
I challenge you to join me in this "sugar" fast...not one negative or cynical thought will you allow to go unchallenged. When you think more God like thoughts you'll get more God like solutions to your challenges. Let's see where this healthier thought life takes us....

Why Do We Fall

Morning Meds 4.11

Why Do We Fall

It's still my favorite morning meds (Morning Meds ,Day 1). I can read it over and over.  And since it's the beginning of the Jewish New Year, I thought I'd share it with you again as well as the motivation behind it.

It was December, 2013 when I first saw this video and like the children of Israel marching around the walls of Jericho, I watched it once a day for a week and one day 7 times altogether. I was beating the fear out of me, and I was deciding the kind of life I was going to live. And in all due respect to those who think I "deserve this happiness" that is manifesting in my life now, I want to let you know how on purpose all this is. You need to know I'm not lucky. You need to know I made a decision to be blessed, and I then acted accordingly. Because not everyone is lucky, but everyone can decide.
